Japanese tech companies surprise us every once in a while with their stupid yet fascinating devices and Nubot is clearly a proud member of this category.

This thing isn’t quite new, but it’s obviously worth your attention if you’re looking to buy someone that’s far, far away a gift.

Basically, the idea is very simple: a smartphone capable of running Skype serves as the doll’s face and actually a way to make you believe that the person you’re talking to is right in front of you.

The doll can be controlled by the remote user via Skype controls, with supported body gestures including waving, bowing and turning.

There’s no word on pricing or on the way you can buy it, but here you are, Skype video conferences brought to another level.
