Software maker Microsoft teased the audience at BUILD with an early version of PowerPoint for the Modern UI, explaining that a touch-optimized flavor of the Office productivity suite would be released in the coming months.

According to a report published by ZDNet, the Metro-style Microsoft Office is expected to hit the market sometime in 2014, so Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and all the other built-in tools will be available on any Windows 8.1 device.

Part of the Gemini product cycle, the new Office suite will come with touch-optimized UIs, but will provide many, if not all, features that are already included in the standard desktop package.

Microsoft has obviously refused to comment on the potential release date of the Metro Office, but given the fact that the company has already presented the PowerPoint version during BUILD, expect more information to be offered in the coming months.
