The company advises users to let Windows Update to apply any available patch

As I’ve reported a few days ago, security firm Trend Micro has discovered a new wave of attacks aimed at Office users and targeting a flaw discovered last year in the famous Word processor.

Even though attacks are on the rise, the Redmond-based software giant says that there’s no need to worry and most users are already using fully-patched systems. Still, they’re all recommended to allow Windows Update to apply any available update, just to make sure no flaw can be exploited.

“Microsoft addressed this issue in April 2012 with Security Bulletin MS12-027 and we strongly encourage all customers ensure their systems are up-to-date with the latest Security Updates. Customers with automatic updates enabled do not need to take action, as those systems were automatically protected when we originally released the security update last year,” Dustin Childs, Group Manager Response Communications, Microsoft Trustworthy Computing, told me in a mailed statement.

Trend Micro warns that cybercriminals are still trying to exploit the flaw, so make sure you check any document that lands in your inbox twice before loading it.
