Windows 8.1 Update 1 will indeed make the modern platform a bit more appropriate for the desktop, but Microsoft is also working to add improvements aimed at enterprise customers.

As a result, Internet Explorer 8 compatibility will be enhanced in Internet Explorer 11 in order to make sure that companies won’t experience any issues with business applications.

“We are enhancing support for enterprise customers via a few tweaks, particularly including features that greatly improve IE8 compatibility in Internet Explorer 11, which is especially critical for web-based line of business applications. Additionally, we’re extending mobile device management capabilities and making deployment easier,” Joe Belfiore said in a statement.

Some of the leaked Windows 8.1 Update 1 builds that have reached the web so far also showed a so-called Enterprise Mode integrated into Internet Explorer 11, but the feature needed to be activated manually via Group Policy.
