14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 8 will have so many uses that's almost impossible to remember them all. Besides being sold as a standalone product, Windows 8 will also be installed on RT tablets and, according to Microsoft officials, it may also serve as the operating system of low-cost diskless computers.
Although the idea behind such a project is pretty simple, the Redmond-based firm doesn't reveal too many details.
Still, Michael Niehaus, a senior product manager and the lead developer for the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, made some very interesting statements at the Australian TechEd conference, explaining that Microsoft may develop this kind of product in the near future.
A diskless computer is basically more affordable and the brand new Windows 8 would allow users to boot from an external device, just like they would normally do from a hard drive. Speed won't be affected at all, says Niehaus according to The Register, and the Windows to Go option should take care of everything.
Not all external storage devices can be used though and they will need Microsoft's certification, as some could get extremely hot when being used to load Windows 8.
