Windows 8.1 Update 1 is expected to make its public debut at the BUILD 2014 developer conference in April, but users might not get their hands on the new release until summer.

That’s what WZOR, a well-known Windows information leaker, said in a short tweet, hinting that while Microsoft might present the update at BUILD, the company won’t actually release it to users sooner than mid-2014.

Such a rumor could sound a bit weird for those waiting for Windows 9, as the same WZOR also added that the next full version of Windows could reach RTM in October 2014, which would mean that Redmond is preparing several major releases in the second half of the year.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is expected to be more of a service pack that would include all patches launched by Microsoft since October, as well as new performance improvements supposed to improve the overall experience with the operating system.
