The firm says that it's still internally testing the build

There are some people out there who believe that Microsoft might actually delay the launch of Windows 10 for phones preview because the company didn't release it in the first week of February, but this isn't the case, according to Joe Belfiore.

Microsoft is still on track for a February launch for the very first testing version of Windows 10 for phones, Belfiore explains, and it's all because of the internal testing that the company needs to do before making this build available to public.

Needless to say, internal testing is critical for every early build of Windows 10 for phones because a buggy release could brick devices or come with bugs that would make phones completely unusable, so the company has to make sure that everything works as expected.

Belfiore also confirms that Windows 10 for phones preview will be shipped to devices with 512 MB of RAM, but these might lack some features because of their limited hardware capabilities that do not allow them to make the most of the new operating system.

And yet, it's worth knowing that not all devices will get the preview from the very beginning, so the first testing version might actually be shipped to only a few models, possibly flagships, that would help Microsoft determine which areas of the operating system need to be significantly improved before the next update.
