Now that the second-generation Surface tablet is up for grabs, Microsoft has a bit more time to focus on the original model, so the company decided to drop the RT moniker in order to fight confusion.

Redmond has launched a new website design for the Surface product family, revealing that the RT branding is no longer being used for the first model.

Microsoft Surface Product Manager Jack Cowett confirmed in a statement released recently that the company decided to drop the RT moniker for the second generation in order to address confusion concerns over the new tablets and thus help users make a difference between RT and Pro models.

"We think that there was some confusion in the market last year on the difference between Surface RT and Surface Pro," he said.
