Microsoft is finalizing development of the second-generation Surface as we speak, with people close to the matter hinting that the public launch could take place in October.

Now a patent filling posted on FreePatentsOnline reveals what seems to be the kickstand of the upcoming Surface 2 tablet, which would include two predefined positions to allow the device to be used in both landscape and portrait mode.

As I’ve reported recently, the new Surface Pro is likely to pack more RAM and an Intel i5 processor for better performance, while the RT could go for a Tegra 4 chip.

Word is that Microsoft is also preparing a so-called Power Cover that would come with a built-in battery for enhanced autonomy. The new cover is said to work on the new-generation models, but also on the existing Surface Pro tablet.
