The second-generation Surface tablet is reportedly in the works right now, with the public debut very likely to take place later this year, possibly in October together with Windows 8.1.

WinSuperSite.com is reporting that in addition to a completely new tablet, Microsoft is also preparing an update range of accessories, including a desktop docking solution to extend the capabilities of the new tablets.

The new dock will only be compatible with the Pro version of the Surface, including the existing and the second-generation model. Unfortunately, the RT won’t support it.

The docking station will feature a mini DisplayPort for video out, one USB 3.0 and three USB 2.0 ports, 1 Gbps Ethernet connectivity and microphone and speaker inputs.

There are no details on pricing and release date but, as said, the second-generation Surface tablet should be here by year-end.
