Microsoft is secretly working to rename Office Web Apps to Office Online, with several reports pointing out that the company is already giving the final touches to the rebranding process of its web-based freeware productivity suite.

According to a report by ZDNet, Microsoft could launch Office Online rather sooner than later, with a comparison chart published on its website pointing out to an imminent debut of the suite.

Office Online is listed as the free option to the Office 365 service, coming with online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, but also with 7 GB of free online storage via OneDrive.

At this point, there’s no information regarding the timing of this launch, but it’s pretty clear that the reason behind this rebranding process is Microsoft’s intention to make the service more intuitive, in an attempt to reach a wider audience and better emphasize the purpose of the product.
