Microsoft this weekend confirmed that Windows 8.1 Update 1 would be released this spring, but it also said something that could be an indication that Windows 9 might be indeed launched very soon.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore told the journalists who attended the company’s conference at MWC 2014 that Redmond is planning to “to continue to refine and improve Windows to deliver a productive and delightful experience for all users on all devices.”

Moreover, he added that “you’ll see us continue on a more rapid release cadence where we deliver ongoing value to all your Windows devices.”

According to previous reports, Windows 9 is expected to launch in early 2015, approximately one year after the debut of Windows 8.1 Update 1.

Windows 9 will, of course, bring lots of improvements for Microsoft’s modern platform, including a Start Menu and options to launch Metro apps in their own windows on the desktop.

No confirmed details are available at this point, but Microsoft is expected to break the news on Windows 9 at the BUILD 2014 developer conference in April this year.
