The Mail app has received a complete makeover in Windows 8.1, coming with a revamped interface and plenty of new features, some of which are specifically aimed at enterprises.

The company talked about these improvements in a new blog post, explaining that enterprises can now safely replace their default email clients with the new one available exclusively in Windows 8.1.

First of all, the Mail app can connect to an Exchange mailbox without the need for setting up a Microsoft account. This is now possible thanks to a new group policy setting, Microsoft says.

At the same time, the application supports certificate-based authentication and authenticated proxy servers, with the latter finally making it possible to use the app within a company network.

As you probably know by now, the Mail app is pre-installed on most copies of Windows 8.1 and can be used exclusively in the Modern UI of the operating system, which means that it’s accessible from both tablets and desktop computers running the new Windows version.
