Microsoft Research has just released a new Metro app called Network Speed Test that allows users to find out the download and upload speed of their Internet connection on Windows 8 and 8.1.

The application packs dedicated options to measure network latency, download and upload speed, while also providing network performance history to track network improvements.

“Using servers all over the world, Network Speed Test measures your network connection’s latency and throughput. Based on your connection’s speed, Network Speed Test will tell you what activities you might be able to do, such as stream music or video calls. Slide to the right to see a history of your previous tests for easy comparisons,” the company explained in the official app description.

Of course, Network Speed Test can be deployed on both Windows 8 and Windows RT and is offered to all users free of charge.
