Microsoft has finally released an update for Surface 2 tablets affected by a BitLocker issue and prompting users to enter the recovery keys every time they turn on or restart their tablets.

The glitch was first spotted in December and Microsoft promised to release a fix as soon as possible, so you can now install it automatically using the built-in Windows Update feature.

“When you use a Surface 2 device, you are prompted to enter your BitLocker recovery key after you turn on or restart the device or you resume the device from the sleep state. These messages may be random or they may occur every time that you try to restore the device to operation,” Microsoft says in the official description of the patch.

In the meantime, everybody’s still waiting for the Surface Pro 2 firmware update that’s supposed to correct a number of problems with the tablets, including battery issues and bugs crashing the device when waking from sleep.
