Buy computers with a reduced impact on the environment

Microsoft has just launched what it calls the “Greener IT Challenge,” a new effort that’s supposed to help buyers across the world purchase computers with a reduced impact on the environment.

The official website holds tons of information, as well as videos and tests to determine whether a specific hardware configuration is eco-friendly or not.

“There are so many opportunities to make more environmentally friendly choices every time you buy, use and dispose of IT equipment like PCs. The decisions you make have a big impact on your wallet and the environment,” a statement posted on the website reads.

Of course, Microsoft used this occasion to emphasize its very own efforts to protect the environment, saying that in fiscal year 2013 it recycled more than 37,000 PCs.

“We have policies in place on buying greener PCs, configuring them to use the power-saving features in the Windows operating system and disposing of old machines properly so they don’t end up in landfills,” the company explained.
