Bankwest is the latest major company deciding to make the move to Windows 8, thus helping Microsoft migrate more than 4,000 users from Windows XP to its modern operating system.

According to a report by ITNews, Bankwest has already run a pilot program to determine whether Windows 8 is the right choice, so the company now decided to move all its workers to the new OS.

The Perth-based bank has noted that Windows 8 brings faster boot times and lower licensing costs, while also offering compatibility with the software applications it uses.

“From a productivity point of view, we make gains from the time you press the power button,” Colin Jones, head of infrastructure services at the bank, was quoted as saying. “Pilot users have reported that start-up times have been massively reduced.”

Microsoft will officially retire Windows XP on April 8, 2014, so the company continues its struggle to move users to a newer operating system. The company has recently issued a statement to explain that sticking to XP beyond this date is very risky, as this particular platform will soon have a zero-day flaw that will last forever.
