Microsoft announced during the Xbox One launch that it has signed a deal with the National Football League (NFL) to provide coaches and team staff with Surface tablets on the sidelines.

This way, both coaches and players will get instant access to replays, videos, stats, and photos from different camera angles to improve their on-field performance.

“From the use of instant replay to the yellow first-down line that has become an important element of the at-home television viewing experience, the NFL is committed to leveraging technology to improve our game for coaches, players and fans,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“We’re thrilled to be teaming with a true innovator like Microsoft to shape the future of the NFL game experience, both on-field and in the living room.”

The five-year deal is worth $400 million (€300 million) and also includes Microsoft providing some technologies supposed to enhance the overall fan experience, most likely with new apps specifically designed for the Xbox One gaming console.
