Redmond-based software firm Microsoft is one of the tech companies that donated millions of dollars to Irish charities and community groups, according to a new report.

Citing the Business Impact Map statistics, Silicon Republic writes that Microsoft, together with AOL, eBay, IBM, Intel, and Oracle have donated $6.8 million (€5.3 million) to local charities.

This isn’t at all surprising, as Microsoft has always been one of the companies donating money to support charities, but also to bring youth closer to the technology world and the latest innovations.

For example, the Softies have recently donated $1 million (€777,000) to bring new technologies in schools and support the blended learning initiative that’s supposed to provide teachers with easy access to new technologies.

Microsoft’s funds will be used to support science, technology, engineering, and math teachers.
