Surface sales aren't going exactly as planned and Microsoft had to turn to a $900-million (€780-million) write-down to adjust inventories across the world, but the company says that people actually love the device.

In a statement sent to V3 after announcing the first Surface Pro discount, Microsoft said that the RT model was enjoying great success worldwide and those who choose to buy it actually fall in love with the device.

“We’ve been seeing great worldwide success with Surface RT pricing and keyboard-cover promotions over the past several months and are proud to offer Surface Pro at more affordable prices starting today,” it said.

“People who buy Surface love Surface, and we’re eager for more people to get their hands on Surface and share their excitement.”

Word is that Microsoft is also preparing the second-generation Surface, an updated product range that’s likely to include an 8-inch unit as well. The company has already confirmed new versions of both the Surface RT and the Pro, but no release dates have been provided.
