Microsoft has just rolled out a new version of its freeware security solution, thus implementing a number of bug fixes and performance improvements for its users.

Microsoft Security Essentials 4.4 is aimed at all pre-Windows 8 computers, as the application supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7, with compatibility offered for both 32- and 64-bit workstations.

While no release notes have been provided for this new version, it’s safe to assume that the application most likely comes with patches supposed to fix bugs and crashes reported by users in the previous builds.

What’s more, Security Essentials 4.4 most likely includes performance enhancements as well, which means that a reduced impact on system performance is also expected to be offered.

All in all, in case you’re running a pre-Windows 8 version of Microsoft’s operating system and you’re still looking for a freeware anti-virus product, just download Security Essentials 4.4 and you’re all set.
