Designer creates concept of a possible Windows media player

Everyone knows that Microsoft is investing a fortune to make its Lumia lineup of phones successful, and while the company is slowly gaining ground in this side of the market, the same smartphones could also serve as source of inspiration for another series of products.

As DeviantArt user Andawuu indicates, Microsoft's existing Lumia models could spawn a media player range that would be similar in design, but which would only come with music and playback features and without SIM support.

His concept, called Microsoft Sentino 760, imagines such a media player, and according to his own words, this could very well be an iPod-like media player running Windows Phone and without phone capabilities.

This idea isn't quite new and there's no doubt that it's doable, but Microsoft clearly doesn't want to go in this direction and be compared to its rival, Apple. It's no secret that tech companies are often criticized for stealing each others' ideas, so building such a media player might actually do more harm than good.

At the same time, Microsoft is trying with Windows Phone devices to offer music and video playback capabilities too, so Xbox Music and Xbox Video app are updated on a regular basis with new features and improvements.

Of course, a Windows Phone will never be as good as an iPod when it comes to listening to music, but it's clearly a good companion on the go.
