Microsoft is expected to launch the second-generation Surface tablet on September 23 during an event that’s going to take place in NYC.

While the company has remained completely tight-lipped on the new device, sources close to the matter claim that the upcoming Surface RT will be simply called Surface 2 and feature a Tegra 4 processor specifically optimized for better performance and increased battery life.

Now a new report published by Neowin suggests that Microsoft is also equipping its new tablet with a 1080p screen, a two-position kickstand and 4GB of RAM.

Sales are very likely to begin by year’s end, with pricing to be announced at a later date. Expect the new Surface to be priced in the same region as the current model. Windows 8.1 will hit the shelves in October, so the timing would be perfect to roll out the new Surface too.
