Microsoft confirmed at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona that a major update for Windows 8.1 would be released this spring, without providing any other specifics on timings.

And still, among the slides displayed to the audience attending Microsoft’s private conference, there’s one that teases the Windows 8.1 Update 1 Start screen and confirms that search and power options are indeed easier to access in this new release.

Power options are placed right on the Start screen, alongside a search icon that allows consumers to use the Modern UI with a touch and keyboard.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is set to be unveiled at the BUILD 2014 developer conference in April and is expected to be delivered to users via Windows Update as an optional download. Of course, it’s going to be offered free of charge to all those running Windows 8.1.
