Microsoft is reportedly in talks to purchase the naming rights for the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, home of Real Madrid, one of the most popular and richest football clubs on the planet.

Spanish publication El Confidential reports, via undisclosed sources, that Microsoft is negotiating with officials of Real Madrid a potential deal that would include the naming rights for a new stadium whose construction is projected to be concluded in 2016.

The report claims that Microsoft chairman Bill Gates himself is involved in the talks, as Redmond is already collaborating with the Spanish football club for a number of charity projects.

Microsoft is supporting the Real Madrid Foundation, a charity effort that promotes education and sport in a number of countries, including Latin America.

If this report is right, Real Madrid could receive no less than $10 million (€7.2 million) for selling the stadium’s naming rights to Microsoft, which in turn would get an excellent opportunity to promote its products among soccer fans across the world.
