Windows XP support will come to an end in just 20 days, so all users are still recommended to move to a newer operating system as soon as possible.

While Microsoft is encouraging everyone to make the move to Windows 8.1, the company admits that the new modern OS flavor could feel a bit different, especially because it lacks some of the traditional features available in the Windows XP operating system.

“With Microsoft support for Windows XP and Office 2003 ending April 8, small businesses and consumers are upgrading to newer devices with updated technology,” Microsoft says.

“For people still using technology from more than a decade ago, Microsoft’s new operating system and productivity software — Windows 8.1 and Office 365 — will look and feel a little different. But knowing a few simple tips will make for an easy transition.”

The company then goes on to describe some of the features available in Windows 8.1 and which might confuse beginners, including the Start screen and the five charms supposed to help you perform certain things faster.

Of course, the company doesn’t lose the opportunity to mention that “the familiar desktop is still there,” thus providing you easy access to very popular programs, such as Office.

Microsoft is working to greatly improve the desktop in future OS versions, with Windows 8.1 Update 1 expected to bring several improvements in this regard, including options to pin Metro apps to the taskbar.
