Windows 8 is one of the operating systems that changed the way we work on our computers, adding a new Modern UI specifically optimized for the touch and encouraging PC makers to dump the traditional desktop and make the move to touch-capable devices.

Joe Belfiore, VP operating systems, Microsoft, said during a press event at the Mobile World Congress that Windows 8 users with touch devices are happier than those without touch, pretty much because the new OS makes working on a computer faster and easier.

We love touch! None of the work we’re doing has an effect on the touch experience in Windows 8.1. But we think we can improve the experience for those without touch,” Belfiore said, pointing out that Microsoft isn’t willing to abandon touch, but it is still planning to improve the desktop.

At the same time, he also explained that Microsoft indeed sold 200 million Windows 8 licenses since launch, adding that this is actually a really good performance, and thus denying all recent reports pointing to a rather disappointing result achieved by Windows 8.
