Rumor has it that future Windows versions will bring together the existing OS flavors, in an attempt to provide users with a unified experience across all devices.

Terry Myerson, Microsoft executive vice president and head of the OS group, said at the Credit Suisse 2013 Technology Conference that Redmond’s goal for the future Windows version is to create “one platform that powers all our devices.”

And still, Myerson said that Microsoft wouldn’t be releasing just a single Windows version for all purposes, such as tablets, phones and PCs. While this could sound a bit puzzling to say the least, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft is indeed trying to merge tablet and phone versions of Windows in the future.

The difference, however, will reside in the way users experience Windows on different form factors, such as smaller tablets and smartphones, with the core operating system to remain basically the same.
