Even though Windows still remains the number one operating system in the world, analysts believe that competition coming from Google and some other companies threatens Microsoft’s domination, so things could change a lot in the near future.

While Chrome OS is regarded as a potential threat for Windows, Taiwan-based ODMs and vendors told Digitimes that Microsoft will continue to be the number one OS provider for the netbook market for the next one to two years.

Of course, Google will continue its efforts in this regard, but so will Microsoft, as the company is reportedly working on the successor of Windows 8 already.

If rumors prove to be true, Windows Blue, the first major upgrade for Windows 8, is scheduled to go on sale in June, while Windows 9, the full-featured successor of the current Microsoft operating system, will be released in November 2014.
