Microsoft continues the search for a new CEO, but we’re getting closer to finding out who the new company leader is, as the board will meet on Monday to discuss on the existing choices.

Bloomberg is reporting via unofficial sources that directors are planning to refine CEO choices next week and keep in the race for the vacant seat three to five people.

At this point, reports coming from people familiar with the matter said that Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally, former Nokia boss Stephen Elop, and internals Kevin Turner, Satya Nadella, and Tony Bates were the five candidates still on the shortlist.

While there are no details as to when Microsoft could announce Steve Ballmer’s successor, insiders hinted that a decision could be made by the end of the year.

Mulally is still considered the top choice to take over from Ballmer, as he could be the right turnaround man to ensure long-term profitability for Microsoft.
