It appears that Nokia had developed a kickstand months before the Surface came to be

Remember the day when Microsoft’s Surface officially got to see daylight? Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Surface division at tech giant Microsoft, presented during a press conference the main features of the tablet, including the Vapor Magnesium case, the innovative Touch Cover, and the very helpful kickstand.

While the company bragged about the kickstand for weeks, it appears that such a technology had been designed months before the Surface came to be.

A patent application belonging to mobile phone manufacturer Nokia shows the first images of an alleged tablet that could actually be unveiled sometime this year.

While this isn’t the first time we hear about a Nokia tablet, it appears that the initial prototype also included a kickstand and a keyboard cover, more or less similar to the ones available on the Surface.

The funny thing is that Microsoft was granted its very own patent to protect the design of the kickstand, so nobody can really blame the Redmond company for copying this feature.
