Microsoft will build a $9 billion (€6.6 billion) data center in Korea that will provide backup technologies for the company’s services in Asia and other parts of the world, a new report reveals.

According to Arirang News, Microsoft’s new data center will be twice as big as the data center that Google wants to build in Taiwan, with the facility to cover no less than 330,000 square meters.

At this point, Microsoft is considering several sites for the project, but a decision on the location to host the new data center is very likely to be made soon.

As far as the reasons for picking South Korea as the host of the new data center, the aforementioned source mentions “excellent maintenance and repair manpower,” as well as cheap electricity and the reduced frequency of natural disasters.
