Microsoft has just announced that it’s retiring the msnNOW service used to provide viral content and the latest trending news articles to users across the world.

While only vague details have been provided, Microsoft said that it prefers to publish trending content across several MSN channels, instead of using a stand-alone service just for this purpose.

“As part of our ongoing work to fine-tune our editorial mix, we’ve decided that msnNOW will stop publishing on December 3, 2013. Rather than having a single home for trending content, we will continue integrating that material throughout all MSN channels,” the company said in a statement.

“We intend to build on what we’ve learned as we partner with some of the world’s leading content brands in the future.”

At the same time, Microsoft has also confirmed that a news section dedicated to offbeat stories would also launch soon, in an attempt to partially replace the retiring msnNOW service.
