Microsoft has yesterday announced an agreement with Nokia to take over its Device and Services business, so Redmond seems to be fully prepared for a new wave of mobile platforms for the next couple of years.

Citing the same anonymous “sources from the upstream supply chain,” Digitimes claims that Microsoft and Nokia are working together to create a new Surface brand specifically focused on tablets.

While details are pretty vague right now, it appears that Microsoft is looking to use Nokia’s influence in the mobile market to boost the popularity of the upcoming Surface brand.

At the same time, the tech giant is looking into ways to expand the Surface product family with new products, with people familiar with the matter indicating that some new tablet models could be released as soon as this year.
