Work on the second-generation Surface tablet continues, with some sources hinting that the official launch could take place in October, so Microsoft keeps trying to clear out inventories of the first model.

WPCentral writes that Microsoft is preparing a new price cut, this time for the Touch Cover, in an attempt to sell more tablets before the second-generation comes out.

Starting with August 30, every Touch Cover will retail for $49 (€59), down from the regular $119 (€89), with the report indicating that Microsoft is planning to make this discount permanent.

There’s still no word on whether a similar price cut might be announced for the Type Cover too, but it’s pretty clear that Microsoft is struggling to stir up interest in the first Surface model, so expect more news on this in the coming weeks.
