Microsoft plans to take full advantage of the potential shown by the Japanese cloud computing market, so the company is enlarging capacity of its Windows Azure platform.

Chief executive officer Steve Ballmer talked during a news conference in Japan about the tech giant’s plan when it comes to Japan and cloud computing services, revealing that this particular market is continuously growing in the country.

“Opportunity in Japan for growth and innovation we find incredible. Japan is our second largest subsidiary and I have a lot of optimism about our process here in Japan,” Ballmer explained.

In addition, Ballmer pointed to an IDC forecast which estimated that Japan’s cloud computing market would grow so much that they would eventually reach $3.5 million (€2.7 million) by 2017, so Microsoft clearly wants to take the lion’s share in this industry.
