Windows Store continues to grow at a moderate pace, with more than 65,000 Metro apps now available for download for all adopters of Microsoft’s new operating system.

Windows 8 officially saw daylight on October 26, 2012 and even though Microsoft expected to see many more apps ported to the new platform, only a few large software companies decided to embrace the Metro UI.

According to MetroStore Scanner, an unofficial service that keeps an eye on the Store and on the apps released to users, there are approximately 65,000 tools now listed for download.

Keep in mind that these statistics concern the global version of the Windows Store, so you may actually get to see a much smaller number of apps, depending on the country you’re living in.

Most of the apps are available with a freeware license, while the “Games” category remains the largest in the entire Store.
