Microsoft and NBC Sports Group have signed an agreement to implement Windows Azure Media Services on web-based sports digital platforms, including NBCSports, NBCOlympics, and GolfChannel.

As a result, Microsoft’s customers will get quick access to more than 5,000 hours of games and events on basically every single Windows device, including smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers.

“NBC Sports Group is thrilled to be working with Microsoft,” said Rick Cordella, senior vice president and general manager of digital media at NBC Sports Group.

“More and more of our audience is viewing our programming on Internet-enabled devices, so quality of service is important. We chose Microsoft because of its reputation for delivering an end-to-end experience that allows for seamless, high-quality video for both live and video-on-demand streaming.”

No other details have been provided, but the two companies should soon start providing users with access to quite a wide array of sport events, including French Open tennis, Formula 1, IndyCar, Premier League soccer, and Major League Soccer.
