The second-generation Surface tablet will officially go live on September 23, with updates for both the RT and the Pro models to be shown during a NYC event held by Microsoft.

Even though the revamped Surface product line was initially expected to come with a smaller unit as well, it turns out that Microsoft isn’t yet ready to step into this side of the market.

TechCrunch is reporting that an 8-inch Surface Mini is highly unlikely right now, so Microsoft will continue to focus on the same form factors as for the first-generation tablet.

No official details have been provided until now, but Microsoft is expected to use an Intel i5 processor and 8GB of RAM for the Surface Pro, while the RT is likely to get an Nvidia Tegra 4 chip and 4GB of RAM.
