The latest beta build of Firefox (b2) has been floating on the Internet for about a week now, having been spotted on Mozilla’s servers around December 29. However, since release, Mozilla has received over 11,000 crash reports for Firefox 10 B2, peaking at over 5K in 24 hours.

The development team has not yet found the cause of this malfunction, but noticed that plenty of the crash details had Facebook and Windows 7 as common denominator.

This may very well be a coincidence, since Microsoft’s operating system has increased in popularity and has generally been adopted by savvier computer users, who also tend to test early software versions. On the other hand, Windows 7 was present in more than 98% of the cases.

As for the social networking site, popularity may be the only reason for its frequency in the crash reports. Earlier versions of Firefox are not affected by the bug and the beta 3 build will be respun.
