Microsoft today rolled out a new version of the Metro Skype build that comes with some new options, but also with improved features and bug fixes to provide a more stable experience on both Windows 8 and 8.1.

The application now comes with options that allow you to switch to invisible whenever you don’t want to be bothered by contacts in your list.

“When you select to be invisible you can still get incoming messages but without others knowing you’re around to pick them up. Think of it like your phone – SMSes come through but you can respond now or later,” the Skype team explained in a blog post rolled out today.

At the same time, the new Skype version also has options that enable you to sign out completely and thus avoid getting any other notifications on your Windows 8 device. “While more and more applications are moving to being always on and always connected, it’s an interesting challenge to balance the user need to be always plugged in while managing intrusion,” the developing team explained the reason behind this new option.

As usual, the new version of the application is being delivered through the store, but you can also download Skype for Windows 8 manually to install it right away.
