The Start Menu was removed in Windows 8, a thing that caused many beginners to spend hours in front of their computers, trying to perform very simple tasks such as shutting down their systems.

While many users have already gotten used to the Start screen, a Microsoft UX designer who posted under name “pwnies” explained on Reddit that the Start Menu was much inferior to new feature implemented in Windows 8, so it makes sense to see it removed from the operating system.

“It's an old model that was designed when we didn't know much about UX, and the biggest thing it has going for it is familiarity. From an efficiency point of view, the new models (search to execute and app pinning) are performing faster in time trials than the old ones (tree based mouse navigation),” he wrote.

Surprisingly, even though the Start screen is so much better, Microsoft is ready to bring back the Start Menu and could do it as soon as Windows 9 hits the market. People familiar with the matter claim that a Start Menu is on its way in Windows and could debut in early 2015.
