Analysts believe that Microsoft’s new-gen Surface is still too pricey

Microsoft’s second-generation Surface brings updates for both the RT and the Pro versions, but all models remain quite expensive, with pricing starting at $449 (€335) for the entry-level edition.

Analysts agree that the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 come with a lot of great improvements, but the hefty price tag might still remain a major setback for first-time buyers.

“Microsoft has addressed a lot of the previous product shortcomings. But they still don't seem to be willing to go where they need to go on pricing to help these platforms gain traction in the market,” IDC analyst tom Mainelli was quoted as saying by The Republic.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has very high expectations from its revamped product lineup, as each model is said to be faster and lighter than previous versions.

Both the Surface 2 and the Pro 2 are now up for preorder, with the first units to be delivered to customers on October 22, four days after the launch of Windows 8.1.
