Google Chrome may be the fastest in testing, but it is also a resource hog. The Great Suspender is a Chrome extension that can help you interrupt the activity of some tabs so you do not have to close them.

The extension is straightforward as far as options are concerned and makes available the possibility to manually suspend the active tab as well as the entire session. With a click of a button, you can reload all the pages.

However, it can be configured to automatically suspend a tab after a specific period of inactivity as well as reload it as soon as you get back to it. Furthermore, you can create a whitelist with the pages you do not want to be suspended, such as music playlists.

Make sure you read the “Welcome” message carefully because it provides details on the problems that may occur upon uninstalling the extension and how they can be avoided.

Also, some users reported issues with tab synchronization across devices, although we did not encounter such trouble during our brief testing. A similar extension is TabMemFree.
