Microsoft is set to bring Metro apps right on the desktop in Windows 9, in another attempt to boost the overall popularity of the Modern UI and to bring more developers on the new platform.

Designer JamesHD2K moved a bit faster than Microsoft and created this concept that imagines the Modern apps running on the desktop in Windows 9, the next OS version that’s scheduled to debut in early 2015.

As he points out, the concept comes with title bars for Metro apps that look identical to the ones of traditional desktop software, which contributes to a smoother transition from the desktop to the Modern UI.

“One of the goals for these concepts is to make some of the common controls a little more obvious, without the need for hot corners or hidden context menus,” the designer explained.

Of course, Microsoft would clearly make itself a favor by looking at these concepts, but it remains to be seen how exactly the company is willing to integrate the Metro UI into the desktop.
