The new Office is up for grabs from the store

Microsoft launched the new Office Touch for Windows 10 in the store, so everyone can give it a try without paying a single cent for the app, no matter if they want to try out Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

Needless to say, plenty of Windows 10 users have rushed to download this free version of the productivity suite, and judging by the reviews posted in the store, most of them are actually satisfied with its feature lineup.

“Wow, this IS Word. This app is amazing and functions just as I would except. Beautiful,” one user writes in a review posted in the new beta store that’s exclusively available in Windows 10.

The new Office Touch for Windows 10, however, lacks some of the features that can be found on the desktop and it’s pretty easy to see why. Porting these features to the Modern UI takes time, especially because the company needs to optimize them for touch, so some of them could be added at some point in the future.

And yet, they all seem to work really great, although they’re clearly optimized for tablets and smartphones. Office Touch for Windows 10 will be pre-installed on all smartphones and tablets that come with Windows 10 from the very beginning, while everyone else can download it free from the store, no matter the device.

The final version of the touch-optimized productivity suite is expected to launch later this year, most likely in the fall of 2015, when Windows 10 is also projected to go live.
