VLC for Windows 8.1 is still a work in progress, but the developing team says that the app has been submitted to the store this week, so it should arrive very soon.

“We've worked a lot on the audio crashes, and finally decided to rewrote the audio stack for Windows Metro platforms. Hopefully, this will allow us to finally pass the Store validation. This kept us busy during the holidays,” a post on Kickstarter reads.

New screenshots presented by VideoLAN reveal a revised interface with modern design elements that bring the app in line with Windows 8.1, Microsoft’s latest OS version launched in October 2013.

VLC for Windows 8.1 will work on both Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, so tablet users will be allowed to install it as well.

More details will be provided in the coming weeks as we move closer to the official launch.
