If you’re one of the many users who missed the Start menu in Windows 8, it’s time to put your party hats on because Microsoft has recently confirmed that this particular feature will be reintroduced in a future Windows update, in an effort to restore full functionality of the traditional desktop.

Microsoft hasn’t provided any other details on the upcoming Start menu, but instead launch a screenshot showing it in action, hinting that the upcoming feature could be a mix of the traditional design with modern elements, such as the live tiles currently available on the Start screen.

Just as expected, the return of the Start menu could be great news for some, but a bad thing for those who have already learned to work on their computers without such a feature.

The Start screen obviously has its advantages, more or less aimed at touch-capable devices, so it only depends on the user and his options when it comes to getting stuff done as fast as possible.

We’ve recently heard that the Start menu might actually have a different design when it’ll hit the market, as the company is actually planning to adopt a much simpler approach and a cleaner layout, so the photo we’ve seen at BUILD 2014 might have been just a mockup.

In the end, the controversy surrounding the concept of a Start menu in Windows still remains, so we want to hear you opinion on this. Here are a few questions to get you started:

Is it a good thing that Microsoft wants to bring back the Start menu in Windows? Do you use the Start screen or a third-party Start menu app? Do you like the Start menu design presented by Microsoft at BUILD? What do you think about the existing Start button in Windows 8.1? Useful or not?
