WinZip has been updated recently to version 16.5, which introduces features designed to massively increase the performance of the application by introducing GPU-driven processing.

WinZip 16.5 brings to the table a rewritten core engine in order to improve performance and the developer touts their 64-bit zip engine as delivering unprecedented speed for file compression.

In the new release, processing speed relies not only on the power of the central processing unit (CPU), but also on graphic cards, AMD ones in particular. Starting this build WinZIP uses OpenCL acceleration in order to exploit the power of AMD Fusion processors and AMD Radeon processors, thus drastically cutting on the app’s compression times.

Looks have also been improved, as the latest build comes with a more intuitive interface.
