WinZip, under Corel’s umbrella for more than half a decade now, has just rolled out a new edition of their archiver, increasing the version number to 16. Although it moved to a major version, the new features and modifications do not come in high numbers, but are quite important.

The app comes with a new 64-bit zip engine which will unlock the full power of your computer. You can now send ZIP archives as large as 2GB over email, through WinZIP’s file delivery service, ZipSend.

Another service introduced in the new version of the application is ZipShare, which allows you to upload and post to Facebook any sort of file (up to 20MB). Also new in WinZip 16 is the ability to compress data and write it directly to Blu-ray discs.

Major compression formats can now be converted to ZIP and the built-in System Scanner can look for performance issues (junk files, browsing traces, registry) and report them to you.
